Gift – Part Two

by Claire Vorster on June 15, 2011

‘I will take it.’  I shall say.  ‘I am her.  I have been waiting for ever.’  And I shall take it in my dirty hand: my inheritance.’  from The Boleyn Inheritance by Phillipa Gregory

Do we get what we deserve in this life? Or maybe the question should be, what do we deserve from this life – love, good health, a happy family, safety, enough to eat, a vibrant social life, good looks, money in the bank, a fulfilling job, contentment, our dream house?

I wonder if our society; the images that flicker across our television screens, through our shopping malls, in our magazines and newspapers, even parts of our online life, seek to impose on us false ideas of what is due to us or what we should treasure the most.  What is ours by right, or what we should be fighting to possess.

Where your treasure is, there lies your heart.  Except even if your heart lies there, you don’t always end up with treasure.

Maybe we need to look beyond these ideas if we are to know what is ours, look to a gift made to measure, an inheritance that cannot and will not be imposed on us but is ours as soon as we ask.

A gift that cannot be corrupted, betrayed or stolen.  An inheritance that is freely given, readily available, lovingly made.  A gift that is only given by a loving Papa to a most loved child.  A love unlike any other, that started before we even were.  The first and last and always love that speaks our name, as if it were the only name.

‘For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’ Jeremiah 29 v11, New Living Translation

Do we get what we deserve in this life?  I know that whatever you lose or whatever you gain – God was, is and always will be with you.  Your loss is also His sorrow, your gain is also His joy.

Maybe we need to look to Him if we are to know what is ours, look to our gift made to measure, our inheritance that cannot and will not be imposed on us but is ours, closer than our next breath.  A gift that is ours to keep.  We have only to ask.

Abba (Papa) is only a little word, and yet contains everything. It is not the mouth but the heart’s affection which speaks like this. Even if I am oppressed with anguish and terror on every side, and seem to be forsaken and utterly cast away from your presence, yet am I Your child, and You are my Papa’. Martin Luther

He believes in you.

Today as been a day away from the world although its not the sabbath, sometimes i just need a break, a catch up. I’ve been catching up on emails and blogs and such things. Every blog i have read this day as said the same thing, He loves you, He has not forgotten about you, He knows what you need. So on a day when my spirit feels heavy with cares of the world the Lord just keep saying ‘I am here’. Thank you for your words.

Oh, yes, that one little word contains it all. Grace is such a beautiful thing.
